American Idol

Do people still watch this show? I will admit that I was a fan in the early years – when the concept was new and fresh, but don’t we kind of know the drill by now? Sure the singers change every season, but nothing else does. Well, correction: This past season I think they added a judge, or cloned Paula Abdul – I remember hearing something along those lines. Despite the additional headcount at the front of the stage, everything is still so predictable. You can bet your bottom dollar there will be some crazy people at the auditions. But it is getting awkward and forced. Ever since William Hung sang She Bangs and somehow wrestled up a record deal, every Tom, Dick and Harry is trying to get their five seconds of fame. And the show is trying too hard to make this funny. Check out the following guy and his bunny friend:

Why did they spend so much airtime on this? The fat guy is dressed up as a bunny and the other guy is carrying around a picture of Simon Cowell – who cares? It is a 2 minute video and I couldn’t even watch the whole thing. Because I no longer tune into the show, I just Googled “Crazy American Idol Contestants” and this was one of 5 trillion hits that came up. I didn’t have the stomach to sit through all of them to find the best example - which proves my point: It has been way overdone.
